Van Overloading Solution

Vehicle tracking and weighing technology could help van fleet managers comply with the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency’s (VOSA) drive to tackle overloaded vehicles.

Automatic number plate recognition cameras and weight-in-motion sensors embedded in roads have led to increased detection rates with more than half of light vans (55.1%) stopped last year for being overloaded.

Now Navman Wireless has teamed up with on-board weighing systems company, Red Forge to provide fleet managers with a system that automatically alerts when their vehicles’ weight limits are exceeded.

The system triggers an automatic alert in the driver’s cab, and simultaneously sends an alert message to the employer’s office PC or mobile phone.

“These latest VOSA statistics are remarkable and signal a worrying trend,” said Tony Neill, vice president, Navman Wireless.

“Companies should act now to avoid prohibition notices, licence revocations, hefty fines, criminal prosecutions and penalty points for drivers.

An illegally loaded van can prove a costly mistake but it is one that we can help companies avert.”

How to Find the Ideal Van in a Hurry

Most of us get by quite happily having nothing other than a car to get around in, but other people have needs and requirements that mean a car doesn’t quite fit the bill.

But looking for what you need can be a real headache. Buying a car isn’t too difficult – there are plenty of dealerships and garages that have forecourts filled with likely specimens. But vans of all types are a little harder to come by in your everyday travels.

But there is a solution. Whatever kind of van you need – from a small van for work, to a caravan for going on holiday – searching for one online is far easier than driving round all your local showrooms or looking in the papers.

The main advantage is in the speed at which you can find the kind of van you are looking for. The search facilities available on each site generally allow you to narrow down the number of vans which appear on your screen, so you are instantly limiting the results to those you are most likely to be interested in. Think about the keywords that will find the listings you are after - you might want to search for a specific colour or size or other criteria.

For example, you might be passionate about attending boot fairs each and every Sunday morning while the weather is good, and your car just isn’t big enough to hold the amount of items you now have. All you really need is a small van with rear and side access, so you simply search for those terms and see what comes up. Alternatively you might have a specific make and model of van in mind, in which case those will be your search terms.

If you’re looking for caravans for sale you’ll also find a large number of caravan classified ads online. As there are far more variables when searching for your ideal caravan, it’s a good idea to write down the main features you are looking for before you begin. You might want a certain size, or one which comes with a detachable awning, for example. Anything you can do to narrow down the number of classified ads you have to search through will save you time in the long run.

If you already have a van and you are looking to get rid of it in favour of a newer model, why not consider selling your current van online? Make sure all the relevant information is included in your advert, and think about those keywords – they could get you a sale far sooner than you think.

Online classified ads are getting excellent responses all across the internet. Whatever you are selling – from a toy car to a real van – a classified ad is the best way to get your item seen.

Van First For French Firms

French van makers Citroën and Peugeot will be offering a unique fleet management system when the new Berlingo and Partner vans go on sale in the second half of this year.

For the first time ever in a commercial vehicle, buyers will be able to specify a device which fits under the dashboard and connects wirelessly to the vehicle’s multiplexed network to transmit to a server mileage, inspection dates, average fuel consumption and other useful data.

Meanwhile, warnings about engine temperature, oil levels, brakepad wear and other critical functions are reported to the fleet manager in realtime.

The new van was unofficially unveiled in Spain last week at the factory where it will be built.

So far 3.2 million Berlingos and Partners have been built since the originals were launched in 1996.

The new van is 4.38 metres long and in standard format offers a load volume of 3.3 cubic metres (against the old model’s 3.0 cu m) and payloads of between 625kg and 850kg.

Later in the year an extended model will be launched with the same wheelbase that will increase load volume further to 3.7 cubic metres.

The load area is wide enough to contain a standard Europallet while six load-lashing eyes will help keep cargo in place.

In the cab, the new van features three seats for the first time, although on our first inspection of the vehicle in Vigo there didn’t appear to be much legroom for the middle passenger.

Meanwhile, this middle seat folds down to reveal a handy desk, while the outer passenger seat also folds to reveal extra cargo space, which allows for loads of up to three metres long to be stored.

Under the bonnet there will be a choice of petrol and diesel engines.

The 1.6 HDi diesel offers 75bhp or 95bhp, while returning 48.7mpg on the combined cycle and emitting 153g/km of CO2. The 1.6-litre petrol offers 90bhp, 34.4mpg and 195g/km of CO2.

There will also be MPV car versions of the two vehicles and a chassis-cab, while the old versions of Berlingo and Partner will continue on sale, re-named First and Origin.
Prices and specification will be revealed nearer launch date.

2008 debut for Peugeot/Citroen twins

Peugeot and Citroën have announced that they will launch new small vans this year, both based on the same platform.

The Peugeot Partner and the Citroën Berlingo update both firms’ successful small van offerings, and will also be featured in MPV form for passengers.

Both vans promise versatility, value for money and a new best load capacity in the small panel van segment.

They have a load volume of 3,300 litres and a maximum payload of 850kg.

The load area length is extendable from 1.8 to 3m thanks to a modular cabin arrangement (called MultiFlex by Peugeot and Extenso by Citroën), which allows three people to sit in the front – a sector first.

Peugeot has said the Partner will be powered by the 308’s HDi diesel engines.

Citroën has not released engine details, but has said that ESP and hill start assist will be available.

Both vans will have MPV siblings.

The Peugeot Partner Tepee includes three individually folding rear seats and a “multi-purpose roof” designed to let more light into the passenger compartment.

Citroën’s Berlingo Multispace features an independently opening tailgate window and promises lots of storage inside. Both brands will launch the vehicles in the second half of this year.

A bit about the Vauxhall Vivaro Van

The options also include two roof bases and two roof heights, as well as well as one petrol engine and three diesel engine options. These new diesels are smooth in their power delivery and relatively vibration-free. The lower powered option is mated to a dash-mounted five-speed ‘box while the 100 bhp version gets a six-speeder, which provides a slicker gear change action.

The vehicle was a product of the joint venture between General Motors (Manufacturer of Opel and Vauxhall) and the French Auto Manufacturer Renault. It is also sold by the Renault Traffic and by their partner Nissan, as Nissan Primaster. The commercial vehicle is manufactured at GMM Luton Vehicles previously known as IBC, in England and also by Nissan at their plant Zona Franca facility in Barcelona.

The vehicle apart from being a high performer in the mid size commercial carrier segment, it is also highly distinguished by its luxuriously designed flamboyant front and overall looks. Compared to other vehicles in the same segment such as the smaller version of the Ford Transit and Volkswagen’s Transporter, Vauxhall’s Vivaro stands out as an obvious choice for any business owner.

The Vauxhall Vivaro Van won the prestigious award from the Professional Van and Light Truck Magazine as the Van of the year 2006.

Vauxhall Vivaro Van

GM and Renault are definitely not scared to be radical in any way. Their joint venture of worth £430 million for the front wheel Traffic or the Vivaro van looks distinctly different from the rivals in the same segment of 1.0 tonne carrying capacity. And it is certain to captivate every sophisticated heads turn at least.

As usual Vauxhall never had a serious contender beside it, as a result it continued to be the market leader for well past several decades.

As a result, the marquee will be quite a captivating thing for many a small and big business owner, and as always will keep fascinating sales for some several more years to come. Other biggies of the industry includes Mercedes Benz (Vito) and Ford Transit which are already suffering a run for their money for the latest offering from the house of the Vauxhall.

Now with the present van market getting in more and more players, most of whom are biggies in the automobile industry; chances are there, that not a long time from now, all of them will be ready to chunk out a good deal for every buyer of the vehicle. And who knows, the day might come when they would start tailoring your vehicle as per your desire or specification and deliver it to you. Wouldn’t that be a true deliverance? Indeed it would be. Sounds like a great compact Van to buy this year right?

But for the time being indulge yourself to explore the sophisticatedly crafted wonderfully engineered vehicle, which is nothing but a wonder piece from the house of Vauxhall. It’s the Vauxhall Vivaro Van folks.
